Need A New Year’s Hangover Cure? Get Some.

Cosmo lists sex as one of the top ways to relieve a hangover for men and women both. Here at Condom Depot, we try to take everything Cosmo says with a grain of salt, but we decided to look into this one to see if there was any truth to the matter.

And what do you know? It seems like a little bit of hanky-panky is just the thing to get your head on straight for the new year.

Sex can replenish testosterone in men, which is stifled after a night of heavy drinking. A little bit of exercise can release endorphins and sex is always more exciting alternative to the treadmill, plus some post-coitus snuggling can help your body release oxytocin, a natural antidepressant and stress reliever.

 Condom Depot’s Hangover Cure:

Here are some tips to help you keep the nausea low and the pleasure level high as you recover from ringing in the new year this holiday.

  • Don’t get crazy. Now is not the time to show off your 70’s pornstar skills. Keep it simple and horizontal to avoid any dizziness related injury. Saucy Spoons is a great position to keep the beer breath away if you can’t make it to the bathroom to brush your teeth. Take it nice and slow and get snuggly.
  • Hydrate. Every time I’m hungover, I feel like I need an IV to get through the day. The thought of expending precious moisture is probably the least most enticing thing about having hangover sex, so remember to drink lots of water. Better yet, ginger steeped in hot water or peppermint tea are both great ways to relieve nausea. Take a break in between rounds to drink up.
  • Switch the pub for the tub. We’ve covered a few ways to have sex in the bath, including Get A Leg Up or even the Hot Tub Hug if you have a hot tub or jacuzzi-style bath. But having sex can help you clean off the gin and cigs stench from the bar. Plus, opting for the bath instead of a shower can lead to fewer injuries if you’re feeling particularly uncoordinated.
  • Avoid oral. The gag potential is too strong.
  • Be safe. The last thing anyone wants to do is take Plan B during a hangover. It’s perfectly safe to take the Morning After Pill after a night of drinking, but nausea + more nausea = a bad day. This is the perfect reason to keep some condoms in the bedside drawer. Safer is always better.
